Magnificent Honolulu Wedding of Dr Charles B Cooper and Kate McGraw

Dr Charles B Cooper and Miss Kate O McGraw wed at St Andrews Cathedral in Honolulu in a crowded ceremony. Guests filled pews and outer spaces as the bridal party moved amid refined chancel decorations, organ and violin music, and a moving service. A lavish reception at the McGrew home followed with a parade of gifts, a Hawaiian flag, and a spacious garden display, marking a notable social event of the city.

National Guard Armory Plan Presented By Colonel

A Hawaii National Guard officer advocated building a new armory to attract and retain volunteers. He proposed a two story stone and brick facility on Miller Street with armory spaces, lockers, baths, and social areas, funded by donations and a government lease with eventual transfer. He urged monthly company dances and a regiment wide fundraiser to start a fund of at least 8,500 dollars, aiming for a 25,000 to 40,000 dollar total.

The Board of Health met at 3 15 p m with members Wood Emerson Day Brown Lansing Kelipio agent Reynolds and secretary Wilcox present Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved Reports under the Act to Mitigate and from the Fish Inspector were received showing 44071 fish inspected that week Dr Moncarrat’s report from slaughter homes was not forthcoming Superintendent Moyer reported cattle consignments at Molokai Settlement with several weak animals needing immediate slaughter and others dying within 24 hours Requests to cut wood at Molokai and to move a leper boy to Kalihi were denied A native petition to be allowed opium daily was debated and opposed with consideration of a special ward for opium smokers The law on opium distribution was discussed Two physicians were granted leave to be replaced and Dr Preach’s license to practice medicine was recommended for grant Dr Greenfield and Stow prepared reports on leper transit to Honolulu and weather permitting shipment plans Dr Jordan reported smallpox port conditions in Hong Kong and noted Empress of China steamer quarantine details
