U S Gunboat Wheeling Arrives and Schedules Overhaul
The U S Navy gunboat Wheeling arrived from Pago Pago Tutuila Samoa early this morning and entered Nav Wharf No 1 around 2 30 o clock. It left Pago Pago June 15 facing a rough voyage worsened by trade winds and a lack of hull cleaning for over a year. Several crew from the Adams joined Wheeling, now station ship for Uncle Sam's Samoan possessions, with eighty eight aboard originally aboard Adams and seventy three from Wheeling’s prior crew. Commanded by Commander Charles K Fox the Wheeling will remain in port until May 5 before proceeding to Bremerton for a major overhaul. The Catholic Church of St John the Waptint Kalibiwaena led by Rev Father Clement notes a holy day of obligation tomorrow for St Peter and St Paul with services and procession.
