Lavin Plans Bold Seizure of Wreck Loot At Seas

The schooner Lavinia, commanded by Captain Weisbarth, returned from French Frigate Shoals with a cargo salvaged from the wrecked Connetable. Weisbarth plans to remove engines, pumps, gear and other gear deemed portable valued around $4,500, and will place sale duties with Ja F. Morgan. The ship’s cargo was well preserved despite the long voyage, and French authorities indicate no claim will be made on the loot. Weisbarth intends to sail soon for Laysan or Mee again to pursue further bird skins and cargo left by Japanese bird catchers before continuing elsewhere.
