Supreme Court hears Obas v. Interior case in Hilo petition

The Hawaii Supreme Court heard the Obas v. Interior petition this morning seeking a writ of mandamus to extend the license period from April 18 to December 31 for the interior department permit. Stewart argued the law is unjust and unconstitutional. Deputy Attorney General Dole defended its validity. Case submitted.

Waterhouse firms announce absorption by Henry May Co and Pacific Hardware

Circular letter states that on June 1 1899 the Grocery and Provision business is absorbed by Henry May Co Ltd while Hardware and Crockery depart to Pacific Hardware Co Ltd. Waterhouse remains linked to the successor corporations and thanks patrons for past favors with a request for continued goodwill. Stores on Bethel street will host the continued grocery operation and hardware stock moves to Pacific Hardware Co Ltd. Honolulu May 29 1809.

Maxwell Reports on Hawaiian Agriculture and Theater Event

Walter Maxwell, director and chief chemist of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters Association, forwards his report to President McKinley, noted in Secretary Wilson’s annual Agricultural Department submission as the first government-recognized report on Hawaii.
