Grievance Over Volunteer Road Work In Hawaii

A Star report described a controversy over Interior Department road crews paid from seventy-five cents to a dollar a day, with volunteers allegedly used for defense labor. Officials, including W. E. Rowell and Charles Herrick, provided payrolls showing varied wages and occasional tool requirements, arguing most workers were properly paid and some idle time explained by workload.

Yacht Club Board Officers Elected at Special Meeting

At the Ionlani Yacht and Boat Club boat house a special meeting elected FB. W. Mc Hesney and W. E. Wall to fill vacancies on the Board of Directors. A new captain was discussed and a committee was formed to approach George Carter. Consideration of consolidating the Leilani club with the Hea Innis was deferred with other matters noted.

Twenty Fifth Anniversary of Oahu Lodge No 1 K of P

The twenty fifth anniversary of the institution of Oahu Lodge No 1 K of P is set for Tuesday August 18 at Sans Souci. Mystic Lodge will join to make the event a success with literary exercises and a banquet followed by dancing in the evening. Attendance limited to members and their families and press representatives.

YMCA education classes set for Bantumber term and spring

The Educational Committee of the YMCA has scheduled classes from Bantumber to December 18, restart January 1 and run to April 30. Subjects include reading writing arithmetic bookkeeping shorthand type writing mechanical drawing piano orchestral music and the Hawaiian language, a new addition.

Tribune cyclists honor trainer with luau at Hendry residence

The Tribune cyclists invited their trainer David Crozier to a luau on the lanai of E. R. Hendry, Esq. last evening at 630 PM. Other riders from rival teams attended, and discussions continued until nearly 8. The event honored Crozier and showcased camaraderie among the cycling community.
