Hawaii Loses Votes At Republican Convention
Chicago dispatch reports Hawaii failed to secure six votes at the Republican Convention, receiving only two after a Rules Committee revision. Alaska, a federal district, was given four votes. Hawaii, initially allotted six, saw a compromise lowering their votes to two while preserving six seats. The debate drew strong lines among delegates, with Foraker, Carter, and McKinley arguing for Hawaii’s full representation, and the program faction pushing limits amid roll-call pressure.
