Circular letter from J T Waterhouse informs customers that on June 1 1899 the Grocery and Provision business was absorbed by Henry May Co Ltd and the Hardware and Crockery departments by the Pacific Hardware Co Ltd. Waterhouse remains affiliated with the corporations and asks for continued patronage. The Grocery and Provision shop remains at Bethel street while Hardware stock moves to Pacific Hardware Co Ltd also on Bethel street. Dated Honolulu May 28 1899.

Independence Day Parade of Hawaii Draws Dense Crowds
Huge crowds lined Richards and Hotel streets for Hawaii Independence Day celebrations. The parade featured the Concordia band Sixth Artillery and a notable Bailey’s Cyclery bicycle float. Floats from Orpheum and Kineses Laundry drew cheers. Opera House program included Rev. M. Levy keynote, readings of the Declaration, and stirring addresses urging broad flag display.

Rapid Transit Line Survey Approved by Executive Council
A long fore noon Executive Council meeting approved a survey of a line from Kalio bridge to the culvert near Johnson's Waikiki place as amended by the Superintendent of Public Works. The council discussed applying for a line on Alapal street but that road is not to be built soon. The Cathatia Mission offer to furnish lynd on Keres tania between Moretreet and Gordon Inve in exchange for land and a 13 year lease was noted. Licenses for Molokai and Labaioa were referred to the Sheriff who recommended denial. Fred Clay of Olan asked to be appointed notary public and the petition was granted after examination. George Sea resigned as deputy sheriff of Waianae and becomes a Bicycle Patrol special officer. Faneuf takes Sea’s deputy sheriff duties in Ewa.
