Notes from the Lower House report on the Land Bill’s second reading. The first twelve sections were passed with amendments. The next key change shifts Land Commissioners to appointment by the President with Senate approval, not Cabinet. The Senate continued consideration with full attendance.

Chinese immigration bill passed third reading. Speaker voting rights debated. rules committee to decide. Richards resigns from sanitary joint committee. House adjourns at 1 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Five leading grocery firms announce closing on the fourth and two firms named Alpha oe and Like no a like will close. Co G under Captain Henry Kaja plans a Fourth of July turnout. Council of State to meet at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Judge Hartwell departs for Kauai with his daughter for vacation. J A Wilder and friends sail Claudine to Haleakala. Charles Murray son of the Councillor of State accepts a ban in the tax assessor's office.
The Supreme Court reopened to hear Prince Jonah Kalanianaole's habeas corpus petition. Justices Frear and the court upheld martial law authority, denying the writ and remanding the prisoner to jail. The panel reviewed martial law powers, military commission jurisdiction, misprision of treason, and presidential delegation before delivering the decision.
The Council of State met in the House chamber with President Dole presiding and ministers and councillors present. Secretary Smith named. A committee of rules was formed by Brown Nuone and Robertson. The council voted to keep the session secret while considering pardons, with Hitchcock and Kinney kept present.
James F Morgan sold a two story wooden building on Alakea near King Street in Honolulu at auction today for removal. Wing Chong Tai bought it for 77 dollars. A house of worship for the Christian Chorale will be erected on the site.
