There is a new house and lot at Kapaloine situated right on the tramways. The lot measures 55 by 100 feet and is rented at $120 per year, with a cash sale price of $900. Five additional lots in the same location will be sold at very reasonable prices.
January 4 report recounts John L Sullivan knocked out by a goat named Dan in La Salle, with the creature snapping a rope and delivering two strong blows. Sullivan mocked the animal but was left gasping before aides subdued the beast. The episode sparked a dramatic show of force and Sullivan later praised Dan as capable of whipping any goat. Education board notes follow with teacher examinations and honors.
Washington Star reports Judge Morrow of the U S District Court held Wong Kim Ark, born in San Francisco, is a citizen under the Fourteenth Amendment and cannot be barred from landings after leaving the United States. The decision, celebrated in Chinatown, may go to the Supreme Court on appeal.
Mowers Ton Wright and David Crozier name handicappers to assign starts for a full slate of races tomorrow at Pine Park. Official program lists 19 events with varied handicaps from one mile novice to three minute class bicycle races and a mule race, with details and penalties for necessary re-runs.
Creditors including California Feed Co and W E Foster sought leave to file a bankruptcy petition against Club Stables Co and receiver Cecil Brown. Receiver Hartwell Thurston Stanley reported a potential sale of assets to satisfy debts and urged against bankruptcy as it would harm creditors and delay proceedings. Judge Carter granted a ten day continuance to await further developments.
Judge Carter today admitted the will of the late Justice Bickerton to probate. Frances Tasmania Bickerton widow is named executrix without bond. Estate valued at $20,028 with $14,835 in real estate. After debts and funeral costs, life interest to Mrs. Bickerton, remainder to four children. Minister Cooper appeared for petition. no contest anticipated.
