Runaway Horse Stopper Officers Halt Near Bethel Street

Clan Macpherson Arrives After Atlantic Tragedy
The British ship Clan Macpherson, Captain McDonald, reached port after a perilous voyage from Antwerp. A second mate and one apprentice, William Maxwell, drowned when he fell from the fore upper topaint yard amid a sparsely winded Atlantic crossing. the crew attempted rescue with a lifeboat and line but could not save him. The captain spoke kindly of the drowned apprentice, a promising youth, and the vessel then proceeded to discharge cargo before heading to new assignments.
