The Nippon Maru, Pacific Mail Line’s new steamer built in England, makes its maiden voyage in these waters. She will sail from this port to San Francisco on Thursday January 6, with 18 knots speed and elegant interiors. Inspecting Sugar Land Prospects in Kona

Messrs Griswoul and Lichtrabore, capitalists who arrived with the Inez steamer, left Honolulu for Kona to scout land for the proposed Kona Sugar Co. They will return on the Mauna Loa after study, with capital decisions depending on findings. The remains of Mrs Kekapi Robinson were moved from Honolulu to Kai Ilna Kona, her late home, accompanied by friends and relatives. she was Mark Robinson's half sister.

Anamba Arrives Montevideo from Liverpool in Distress

The British bark Anamba arrived in Montevideo this forenoon with 1770 tons of general merchandise for T. H. Davies & Co from Liverpool. She had been at sea 82 days suffering damage and sickness, with injuries to sailors and the first mate losing an eye. Clearances were signed by the mate and crew, leaving only boys aboard. current crew are from Montevideo.

Laying Out New Roads in Hawaii Shortens Hawaii Route

Bids opened Saturday for a road from Huehue ranch to Waimea Hawaii but no contract awarded. McGuire and Eben Low were the only bidders. The project, laid out for the Government by Li M Whitehouse, C E, cuts distance from 45 miles to 32 miles and crosses notable Java flows. Whitehouse plans Maui work to survey new roads crossing galeries at Honolua and Hovokobau.
