United States Navy transport Celtic sighted near harbor
The United States Navy transport Celtic was seen about 9 30 this morning drifting off the harbor. A pilot boat went out but the vessel’s master declined pilot services and asked quarantine doctor Dr Hobdy to relay to Naval Station for Captain Rodman or another officer to pilot the ship in. With no line officer present, the Celtic may need harbor pilots or enter unaided. The vessel, a refrigerated transport used between Australia and Manila, is bound for Mare Island for overhauling and is expected to remain in port into Tuesday next.
