Captain Niblack takes temporary command at the yard
Passengers arriving from San Francisco report Captain A Niblack, U S N, assuming temporary command at the yard station until Admiral Terry arrives at Alameda on August 21. Niblack becomes master of the yard, relieving Captain Hodring of duty while Hodring retains command of the Seoquois. Niblack, who entered service in 1876, was Annapolis classmate of Captain Rodmand and previously inspector of target practice in Washington. He had been on sick leave in Mexico.
