Republicans Choose Hilo 13 to 8 For Convention City
The Territorial Convention location was decided by a 13 to 8 vote, favoring Hilo. Delegates and supporters debated Honolulu versus Hilo with figures and names like Samuel Parker and J. A. Gilman present. Critics warned a Hilo convention could be a paper proxy gathering, while supporters argued it would strengthen the party and boost Hawaii delegates’ influence.
