Legislature Discusses Kerosene Bill and Cable Project

The Senate and House debated amendments to the kerosene bill and rights of way, with conference committee notes read. A proposed two week recess was opposed by native members. the cable project funding and feasibility were reviewed, with decisions deferred to the next session.

Legislature Proceedings on Printing, Appeals, and Bills

The House received Senate concurrence on a land bill and an appeals bill from District to Circuit Courts. Debates over publishing proceedings, indefinite postponement, and committee referrals followed. The Military bill passed on third reading, with other measures including a $3000 budget increase and tax exemption for public libraries. Session adjourned at 12:20 with calls for continued action tomorrow.

Court Hears Murky Hawaii Courtroom Docket

In TR CIRCUTT CcoURT Judge Whiting sentenced John Montgomery J Sullivan and Paul Beranal to six months imprisonment and fines of 25 dollars plus costs for second degree larceny of the yacht Bonnie Dundes valued at 2000 dollars owned by S K Dole W W Hall C White and W L Wilcox. Kaahanui Kailianu and D Kaubaa received similar gambling sight fines of 100 dollars and 3 60 costs after appeals. S Kapihea faced trial for robbery before a native jury. Robertson prosecuted Neumann defended. Judge Cooper dismissed Vittoriano Oberava J D Ackerman bill for specific performance finding an assignment of lease fraudulent and plaintiff not entitled to renewal due to land overrun with Jantana Neumann for plaintiff Carter Kinney for defendant.

Mixed PP Mens case leaves two Chinese freed after unclear testimony

Judge Perry faced a murky arraignment as two Chinese suspects were accused of assaulting a police officer named Exsptnda and of violating a Sunday law by keeping a place open. Testimony differed 80 ways, so the court granted the defendants the benefit of the doubt and discharged them. George de la Vergne prosecuted with A. S. Hartwell and W. L. Stanley for the defense.
