Legislature Adopts Land Bill Revisions and Public Safety Talk

The Senate, opening at its usual hour, advanced the Land Bill with conference amendments creating a Hawaii land system overhaul. A communications stopgap on low grade kerosene and a wide range of accounts were reviewed, with the bill now sent to the president. A murder case in Kona prompted an inquest after a decapitation of a Chinese man and possible watermelon theft motive. An upgraded seating plan was announced for Kapiolani Park and Makalei landings, and the Waianae Racing Association forms ahead of Christmas racing.

August Court Opens with Diverse Docket in Hawaii

Judge Whiting presided at the August term of the Circuit Court with Attorney General W C Smith present to prosecute government cases. Several cases were disposed or continued including nolle prosequi for John Bush and F J Testa, guilty pleas for yacht larceny and second degree larceny, and multiple calendar actions. Notices issued for cemetery lots, a council meeting, and stockholders meeting at Woodlawn, plus vacation plans for Chief Justice Judd.

House Proceedings Reveal Postponement and Adjournment Hint

The House met at 10 a.m with Rep Winston from commerce agendum urging definite postponement of a kerosene bill. Report tabled for later consideration as Rep Hain pledged a resolution on adjournment. Some members planned to leave tomorrow regardless of business. The Military bill had a second reading with Mr Hatch proposing passage of the Sharpshooters section.
