A local retailer promotes women and girls new swimsuits with shape and colors for little money. Black and navy blue suits with trim are featured along with matching caps and slippers. Men and boys are offered a good line of bathing suits as well.
At a Board of Health meeting a letter from Dr. McGettigan of Hana Maui dated July 28 1904 describes his costly ride to Kipahulu to examine a Chinaman found dead on the beach. He billed 50 for the dangerous trek and autopsy which was initially refused by Sheriff Baldwin. The matter was referred to the Attorney General’s department for settlement and Dr. Cooper reported on meetings with federal health officials and Roosevelt era policy, noting Hawaii’s push for expanded federal control to offset local expenses.
The Board of Health met to review monthly notices and inspections. Dr Pratt noted four nuisance complaints abated, three notices served with compliance, two post mortem investigations, and seventeen licencing recommendations for hotels, restaurants, and lodging homes.
