A dispatch reports Japanese forces found 25 million dollars in a Russian camp prompting Honolulu experts to estimate coin boxes and total weight. If divided into 50 pound packs, the booty would require 1680 men. in 1000 pound carts, a procession nearly a quarter mile long.
A damaged OCR item credits Pilot Ma Caulley with skillful guidance of a vessel into Naval slip No 1. The monster liner Mongolia or similar craft was moored alongside without significant difficulty despite the bow obstruction. The report praises Caulley for excellent performance and safe berthing.
The Territorial Band of Hawaii serenaded Bandmaster Captain H Berger on his birthday at Miller Street. They played Old Hundred Manhattan Beach and Star Spangled Banner. A congratulatory letter signed by all band members was presented in Honolulu on August 4, 1904.
The Fighting Seventh Republican Precinct Club adopted harmony resolutions and ratified Roosevelt and Fairbanks nominations. T. McCants Broward sent copies with a letter to President Roosevelt. The White House replied on July 12, 1904, expressing thanks for the good wishes. William Loeb Jr. signed as secretary to the president.
The U S army transport Dix docked at Naval Wharf No 2 after a calm voyage from San Francisco. It carries a valuable cargo of live stock for the Philippine civil government including Holstein cows, Kentucky saddle and Morgan horses, Arab stallions, mares, mules, and carriage horses. The stock will be housed in specially prepared quarters and later shipped to the quartermaster depots in Awilot for exercise before final corraling. The Dix plans to coal here for 200 tons and proceed to Manila directly after remaining in port until Saturday.
Reported backing of officers on leave from Asiatic Station and rapid repurge of Asiatic fleet vessels at Bremerton prompted Admiral Terry to say he knows absolutely nothing about the matter. Mongolia arrived from San Francisco with U S navy officers ordered on duty. Mrs Fred A Smith has recovered from a nervous prostration. Auction of Vide Villa postponed to 19 o clock tomorrow. Hawaiian Band notes. Berger has led the Royal Band since 1873 with musicians now paid 35 to 60 dollars per month.
The Merchants Association directors announce an evening session to boost attendance. The move aims to accommodate members who cannot attend during business hours and to advance the community's interests through broader participation.
Honolulu August 3 1904 Acting Governor Atkinson receives a response from Delegate Kunio regarding federal appropriations for Hawaii. The letter argues Hawaii, as a distant group of islands, must be considered beyond mainland theories and needs large harbor expenditures and national support rather to meet local conditions. The reply notes Hawaii’s lack of navigable rivers and small towns, urging recognition of unique climate and social needs. (Continued on Page 4.)

Mongolia arrives off the harbor with captain Porter now in command of the Pacifie Mail liner. The ship docks at Naval Wharf No. 1 around 11 18 AM. Porter, a Pacific Mail veteran, has previously captained Siberia City of Para and other ships. He recalls bringing laborers here and says he has brought many good men to port.
