Purser Sutton Arrested in Opium Import Case
At about 11 AM on the corner of Hotel and Nagano streets purser J.B. Sutton of the steamship Alameda was arrested for importing opium after officer Cordes spotted the drugs in concealed pockets. Seven halves of an ounce opium were found, Sutton admitted possession, and he was jailed as investigations noted he had long been suspected in port opium activity.

Opium Case Dismissals In Police Court
In a police court session the case against G Nieper DP O'Brien and J Barry for smuggling opium from the steamer Australia proceeded.
