The Hawaii legislature discussed Senate Bill No. 25 on fire limits and building inspections in Honolulu, endorsements on gambling bans, Chinese immigration, and street improvements. A defeated motion paused action. a Sunday shooting ban proposal gained support, with petitions from business leaders and changes to the appropriation and court term bills. The session adjourned at 12 50 AM.
The House of Representatives met and received a Senate citation noting the council of state election is set for Monday April 20. Rep Robertson from the Judiciary Committee presented a report on an act to amend legacies and inheritances, recommending laying the bill on the table while the substitute passes. Rep Bond filed a minority report opposing Sunday target shooting restrictions.
Chaplain Peck celebrates fual passage of a gambling ban for ball games and similar events. Senate sessions are disrupted by loud talk on the stairs and near the fence outside. Senator Brown’s opin bill and the Liquor Commission report appear to have paused. The flag at the Executive building was late this morning, and Minister Duiwow’s loan bills stay with the Special Commission of the Senate.
The city will inaugurate a new fire alarm signal system at 6 PM using a whistle and a map linked to district numbers. Operators count strokes to indicate fire location, enabling rapid dispatch from engine houses and reducing confusion with a scheme devised by Chief Engineer Hunt.
