Death of F C Lowrey prominent railroad man

Frederick Canfield Lowrey aged 68 died last evening from Bright's disease with heart trouble. He was born in South Lee Massachusetts where he was a noted railroad man, first conductor on the Housatonic passenger line, later an official. He moved to California then Honolulu, where he lived sixteen years. Funeral at 4 this afternoon from W K Castle residence conducted by Lee and Birnie. pallbearers named Mossra J B Castle Wickman Bonner French Harris and A F Cooke. He retired two years ago due to ill health. He was a member of the Central Union church and linked with Fort Street history on arrival.

Claus Spreckels Donates Land for Public Highway

Claus Spreckels donates a fifty foot by one mile strip from Santa Cruz County road to Aptos Beach to be used forever as a public highway. The donation settles prior litigation over the land and is made without consideration with the aim that the public use the strip. The land is described as very valuable.

Band concert honors Australia passengers at Hawailian Hotel

At the Mawoman Hotel a band concert honoring Australia’s passengers is listed for this evening at 7 30 at the Hawailian Hotel. Apathy night chosen over Wednesday to avoid church services. Professor Barger has arranged the following program.

Lager Stocks and Dividends Declared on Sugar Shares

Dividends already paid since April 1 on sugar stocks include Ewa at 2 percent and Peewee Va Kahuku at 2 percent. Pain pa yment amount not yet public. Hawaiian Commercial stock rose to 20 from 10:50 in under a month and remains steady. No clear reason for the sudden issuance.
