J A McCandless was arrested in the morning on a charge of in carnal abuse and battery against a Chinaman. He and Walter Jones were driving on a Beretania road when a Chinaman in a surrey crowded their vehicle. The Chinaman threatened and McCandless pursued, leading to a confrontation near H W Schmidt’s house. The Chinaman later presented at the police station with a disfigured face. A warrant was sworn and McCandless submitted to the standard procedure.
