Open Next Tuesday as Schools Prepare for New Year

Education officials announce opening next Tuesday with a full teaching corps for grades one through seven. Principal candidates include Miss Della Eichelberger for the grammar school and Mr. C. M. Luce named as Principal of the County High School. New teachers include Miss Bibel Hotchkiss for English-French and Miss Hatehkies, while the district seeks a social studies instructor. The county board works to finalize staffing for commercial history and other courses before opening.

All Game on Home Grounds Next Monday

The final ballgame of the 1922 season will be played Monday afternoon on the local diamond against Eureka. Despite poor practice weather, the team has addressed weak points caused by player departures and hopes to deliver a strong performance, with Ely leading a capable lineup against a tough Eureka squad.

Movement follows serious operation at Francis Hospital

Friends of Mrs. Frank Machado of California, daughter of Mr. Maurice Isaac of Cortes, County, announce she is improving after a very serious operation at Francis Hospital in San Francisco. She had been in poor health for years and was very low at the time of the operation.

Meeting of creditors in Berolo bankruptcy case in Enteka

The first meeting of Angelo Berolo’s creditors, former general merchant of Enteka, was presided over by Judge J. A. Langwith. Attorneys for Berolo appeared. Nos tress and Minolett testified. Claims approved include First National Bank of Winnemucca and others totaling several thousand dollars. Creditors have one year to file claims. J. B. Reba le elected trustee. bond set at 145000. Morley Griswold named attorney for trustee. appraisers appointed.

Indicted Palisade Rancher Faces Secret Land Fraud Charge

Accompanied by attorney B F Curler Raine left Reno for Carson City to plead before Judge Farrington in a secret federal indictment charging conspiracy to defraud the United States over a Homestead claim. Raine allegedly conspired in 1916 with Jacob Bates to obtain a home site by misrepresenting Bates’ plans, Bates later died. U S agents traced the scheme after an Interior Department probe. the entry was cancelled for lack of proof. The true bill followed a federal grand jury report.

Raine Granted Time to Plead in Government Land Case

Carson Nevada Aug 3 F Raine Palisade rancher appeared with attorney B F Curler in US district court and was granted until September 11 to plead to a conspiracy charge of obtaining government land using a dummy entry man. He was arraigned before Judge E S Farrington.

New York lawyer M H Briggs reports from San Francisco on plans for Eureka Smelting & Mining to buy the railroad and build a large smelter. He praises Eureka’s past and envisions deep mining, broad ore treatment, expanded rail service, and revival of mining with massive capital, employment, and improved living conditions.
