R. J. Laws Drops Dead After Train Collision
A Southern Pacific Express collided with a stock train near Cisco station in the Sierras on October 20. Fire destroyed the caboose and four stock cars, damaged the passenger engine, and burned the express and baggage cars, with fire reaching 2200 feet of snowsheds. Superintendent R J Laws, aboard the passenger train, died shortly after, likely from heart disease.
