Geologist M Clute reports near Adams Hill Eureka district show potential ore bodies across Hamburg and Pogonip formations. shallow mines already produce and Holly mine shows depth potential, suggesting rapid district development and strong mineral promise for Mineral Point and adjacent areas.
Edward A. Murphy of the Chronicle San Francisco is in Eureka gathering data for a two page feature on Eureka to be published in a few weeks. Mining engineer R W Foster and Sir Donald Mann associate has been in town two weeks inspecting Eureka Croesus mine and other interests of Eugene Davis. Mrs Foster is accompanying him at the Eureka Croesus headquarters. Snow and cold prevail with about four inches of snow and temperatures plunging to below zero, with blizzard conditions in the Rocky Mountain regions.
The department of education will not hold December teachers examinations this year. All certificates now in force remain valid until the June examinations.
Lapsley Hope, superintendent at the Holly Mine, studies a diesel plant for the new power facility to aid sinking the shaft to 700 feet this winter. A drift from the shaft bottom will reach the high grade ore body, shipments from 500 foot level averaging $70 per ton. The company plans a loading station near town to cut distance to the railroad by about one mile.
The notice discusses new investors obligated to provide substantial funds to support the mine. It notes the plan to sink a shaft and acquire stock, with the implication that owners are preparing to secure capital for the project.
Dr Henry Hagar of Ruby Valley Elko County has shown great improvement after a month at Mayo Bros hospital in the East for hearing treatment and is expected to return home soon George W Kaeding left Battle Mountain for Candelaria to oversee construction at the camp near the Winter Mines and the old mill are being readied for spring work Mrs Kaeding plans a California visit with relatives before joining her husband at the new location
J C Tognoni of Duckwater Nye County arrived in Elko with shale samples from claims in Butte Basin. He says the shale is high quality with a main vein and sidewalls carrying oil over 100 feet wide. East oil men recently scouted the area. tests will be conducted at the Catlin plant.
Ore shipments to Utah smelters sent this week include ten cars by the Eureka Croesus Mining Company from Prowpoed mountain and nine cars by the Richmond Eu reka Company from Eureka Con slag dumps.
The Carson Appeal reports that Tognont, a prisoner from Eureka County sentenced in January 1918 for robbery, was among inmates released on parole from the Nevada penitentiary.
Eugene Davis reports on-site progress for Eureka Croesus affairs. Construction will start in spring as weather allows with heavy pushing to completion. Ore shipping will continue during delay and track extensions to the lower baseball grounds will add ore loading bins and warehouses, saving travel and time.
Rich ore from the Home Ticket bonanza runs over 450 dollars per ton with average values above 200 dollars per ton. The upraise at sixty feet will be sunk further to follow ore down toward the 400 level, using an air hoist. Superintendent Huebner calls this 400 level work the district’s most important, as nearby bodies of ore may merge into a single rich vein. Weather hampers outside work but mining advances with renewed vigor. An upraise at the 400 level will connect with old Dunderberg stopes to supply air and to trace the north and south fissure where ore was found in earlier times.
R W Foster, a veteran mining engineer tied to Sir Donald Mann and the Canadian Northern Railway, visits Eureka for two weeks to inspect the Eureka Croesus mine He says the ore is high grade and the property large He plans a full report and believes a new smelter next spring will secure long term district prosperity
Eugene Davis announces he has seized the Wells option on the Prospect Mountain Tunnel and bought all Wells machinery, tools, supplies, buildings, and equipment. He says an announcement will follow on proposed uses for the tunnel.
The report that Charles Sexton brother of J E Sexton is to be connected with Eugene Davis when he takes over the railroad circulated. Davis says Charles Sexton will be connected with him and all his enterprises including mines bank and railroad. He expects Sexton to take charge during the coming month.
The Eureka-Holly Extension Company began sinking a shaft on property adjoining the Eureka-Holly claim on the north side. A blacksmith shop has been erected and the company plans to sink 150 feet before cutting a station.
Water was struck this week in a Dry Lake well about 12 miles southwest of Eureka. Bidart and Florio report a 560 foot depth with 40 feet of water sufficient for sheep ranges during summer. Stockmen have long sought the abundant feed, and with Dry Lake success they plan more prospecting and a bore planned on Spring Valley summit with Mr Ablera.
W. M. Clute and B. R. Berg have opened a mining engineering office in Eureka. Clute brings extensive experience in engineering and geology in the United States and Mexico, while Berg is well known in Nevada and has long resided in Tonopah. The office houses complete drafting tools and patent records for district claims and will provide surveys maps and geological reports with plans for a spring chemical and assaying lab and a Deputy U. S. Mineral Surveyor to handle patent surveys.

Dan Robinson and the Misses Della and Sarah Robinson visited the W H Smith ranch Sunday. Mrs George A Moore was the guest of Mrs W A Moore this week. Ernest Simonsen and Alden Hicks traveled to Elko. Simonsen returned with a new Essex car. Flora Aguirre of Pinto Creek visited Mrs Angelo De Bernardi last Saturday. Anna De Bernardi Flora Aguirre and daughter Mary visited the William Robinson ranch in Shady Lane Sunday. Granville Price of the W A Moore ranch visited Strawberry Sunday.

The Eureka Theatre showed a Pathe comedy drama Thanksgiving night, and local business figures visited, leased eateries opened, and social dances followed the film screening.
