The Rose In the Ring Prologue Summary
David Jenison a Virginian fugitive seeks refuge with a circus. Clown Grinaldi recognizes him as the boy murderer with a $500 reward. Braddock pressures surrender, but David offers $9,000 inheritance to Braddock in exchange for protection. Dick Cronk, a clever pickpocket in the show, engages in schemes to aid David, while Ernie Cronk, Dick’s brother, struggles with greed and family loyalty. Tensions rise as Braddock’s finances and Barnum-like ambitions collide with Dutch-like deceit, and the troupe becomes divided by love, loyalty, and suspicion.
