Second draft gall comes in February

Washington reports President Wilson formalized the selective draft’s new machinery with a foreword to regulations and questionnaires for nearly ten million registrants. The system aims to classify men into five classes and begin actual calls by mid February, with local boards aided by doctors and lawyers nationwide.

Rats at the Front Drive Soldiers to Bring Dogs

French rat catchers report terriers and spaniels deployed in large numbers at the trenches. An army officer promised two extra days of leave for each soldier who fetches a rat-catching dog. Owners also earn five centimes or one sou per rat killed, turning dogs into a small side income.

Public sale will take place in front of the Courthouse in Eureka for cash on Monday November 19 1917. L W Cromer tin shop stock-in-trade includes tools, stock, water and milk pails wash boilers tin cups buckets stovepipe and other articles. Three heating stoves also offered.
