Eugene Davin principal owner of the Eureka Croesus mine in the Eureka district is invited to address the National gold conference in St Louis. He advocates an excise tax on all gold used by the trade with proceeds to producers to boost production and meet arts and sciences demand. He cites data showing gold consumption exceeds domestic production by 15 million dollars this year and could reach 20 million next year.

Armistice Day passed without public observance in Eureka though citizens reflected on peace and liberty. Mined districts closed for rest, schools dismissed early, and the town held a social dance at the Eureka Theatre after the day. Eureka Cash Store advertised stoves and heaters including a 1919 Everlasting Sanico porcelain range with a 25 year guarantee.

Richest Ore Ever Found Near Eureka in Croesus Mines

Superintendent Julius Huebner reports extraordinary ore in the Eureka Croesus mines with a November 12 assay of 0.62 ounce gold and 306 ounces silver per ton, plus 70 percent lead, worth about 486 per ton at current prices. Additional strikes on the 400 level yield high values, including a 12 foot face with 2% gold, 54 ounces silver, and 54 percent lead, valued at 199.99 per ton, while copper assays reach 32 percent. The company operates five ore bodies at the 400 level and aims to improve deliveries as development continues amid weather and road conditions.

L W Hope of the Eureka Holly Mining Company sails to San Francisco for two weeks. He will study Diesel engine plants to be installed at the Holly mine next month. A ten drill capacity Ingersoll Rand compressor is ordered and a 2000 foot sinking borst is built in Los Angeles. The shaft aims for 700 feet with ongoing high grade ore shipments to Salt Lake City smelters.
