Eureka County Election Results Show Shifts and Official Count

Voters faced cold conditions but sent in ballots across Eureka County. Official returns corrected early totals, placing Clarence Johnson ahead by three votes for County Commissioner after Beowawe and Keystone tallies were finalized. State officers, judges, and local posts were elected. Reynolds won the district judge race by 16 votes in Lander and Eureka counties.

County High School Bond Issue Carried in Eureka County

Eureka County residents supported the County High School bond by a narrow margin of 71 votes. The Eureka County Board of Education outlines plans to advertise and sell bonds, hire an architect, and award the construction contract to the lowest responsible bid. The board thanks the public and pledges transparency in the building program.

High School Work to Begin Next Wednesday

The Phillips house on Nob Hill is being prepared for high school occupancy. Principal Luce announces work starts Wednesday morning at the regular time. Archways connect lower floor rooms to form two large lit areas and upstairs two rooms ready for study. Miss Hotchkiss and Mr. Luce teach on the lower floor with two large rooms for recitation. Commercial Department under Miss Clark will be in the upper area, bookkeeping in one room and typing in the other. Parents and citizens are urged to visit after opening.

Eureka district school resumes with new accommodations

Eureka's district school reopens Monday with seventh and eighth grades under Miss Eichelberger meeting at the Presbyterian Church. Fourth and fifth grades under Miss Tambini are housed in Giles residence on Nob Hill, while lower grades under Miss McNaughton and Hooper use two rooms in the Tognonl residence. Attendance is good and progress reported. Dr W B Taylor notes snow delays prevented a December visit plan.

Death of John Conway at Bu r eke home

John Conway a Bu r eke resident since the 1870s was found dead at noon Thursday in his Buel street home. A revolver lay beside him, door locked, with Sheriff Mahoney notified. Coroner judged a self inflicted gunshot wound and a verdict of death from a gunshot wound in the head. Conway, age 65, formerly worked at Eureka furnaces and as a railway watchman, lived alone and had relatives in Plattsburgh, New York, who requested shipment of the remains there.

Death of former Eureka merchant remembered in city history

News from Eureka notes the death of M. Karsky in San Francisco on October 30. He once ran a large dry goods store on Main Street Eureka, later living on Nob Hill with his six children. He moved to San Francisco with his family in 1900 and was regarded as an esteemed, long-time Eureka resident.

Attendees at the Diamond Rebekah Lodge event on election eve enjoyed attractions and a hot lunch while dancing to a three piece orchestra. The lively evening kept guests together until about 3 a.m. with strong turnout and festive atmosphere.

65 000 Addition to Fallon School

Fallon announces a $65 000 annex to Churchill County High School with bids to be opened November 23. A Chicago firm purchased the bond issue at a premium of 3281. Sacramento architects design a two story addition featuring three classrooms, two science laboratories, a science lecture room, boiler room and heating plant. The project aims to make the school’s science department the best equipped in the state.
