Women and the War Y W C A clubs sprout for morale
Within six months after the U S entry, the Y W C A War Work Council set up clubs at forty cantonments barracks and navy yards and placed trained recreation leaders in charge. The effort aims to engage and guide girls, offering activities like dressmaking cooking knitting French athletics dancing singing Red Cross Belgian relief and care for orphans while avoiding scolding and fear.
