Special Prosecution Moves in Connell Poison Case at Elko

Elko Free Press reports that three prominent Elko residents will face warrants for participation in the attempted poisoning of Mike Connell. Special Prosecutor J A Sanders arrives to lead the case after Attorney General Thatcher redirected investigators. Ell Connell’s confession corroborates other evidence leading to arrests and preliminary hearings early next week.

Twain Missed Pocket Gold by One Water Bucket

Mark Twain vacationed in Calaveras County at Jackass Hill with Jim Gillis. As rain fell they debated carrying water, and while Jim pressed on a pan exposed fresh gold. Two strangers seized the find after 30 days, taking about $20,000. Twain missed the pocket by one pail of water.

Famished Prospector Found Near Death on Desert Road

W. J. Tobin of Pioneer Consolidated Mines found a 76 year old prospector wandering, unable to speak, after two days without food or water 15 miles southeast of Bonnie Clare. He said robbers attacked him while traveling from Arizona and he recovered after reaching Tonopah Goldfield.

Mike Sinn pleaded ignorance of the law and was fined twenty dollars by Judge W A Jones of Fallon for shooting a Chinese pheasant.

A witness, Mrs. Connell, remains in the county jail as she is used to testify against individuals she implicates in a penitentiary case. The proceedings indicate continued detention to secure testimony.

Wanacled Women Parade Highlights State Suffrage Gap

In Chicago June 7 at least 40 000 women will march to urge the Republican convention to back a suffrage plank. Twelve white dressed leaders will bear state names while 36 gray dressed girls carry a ball and chain and marbled hands to symbolize states with voting rights. Suffrage Day is set for May 28 and Philadelphia’s liberty bell replica will travel in the parade.

Senate and House conferees approve Nevada tribal funding totaling 140 930 dollars. Allocations include gratuities for Nevada Indians at 18 500 dollars, Carson Indian School 62 430 dollars, homes and farm sites 15 000 dollars, Pyramid Lake irrigation 30 000 dollars, and Washoe land and water rights 15 000 dollars.

Divorce suit filed in Elko over felonious poisoning case

M. B. Connell initiates district court divorce in Elko claiming the defendant was recently convicted of attempting to poison him. He seeks the decree and sole possession of all property he owned before the marriage in Elko on January 19. He has lived in the county 20 years and the property was accumulated before the marriage.
