Newport May 16 With all hands well and contented and fresh air aboard the submarines Octopus and Lake Cove 10 after a 24 hour test beneath Narragansett bay at 4 pm. The Octopus rose first to a crowded board and air samples were taken every two hours. Only two foul air incidents were reported and only about one fifty fifth of the air supply used. the boat could remain submerged 85 days if food and fuel held. The Lake Cove 10 also performed well though a superstructure leak occurred and air use could not be fully measured.
