Sherlock Holmes in Nevada captures escaped Fallon criminals

Four days after escaping Fallon jail, four hardened fugitives were recaptured at Montella near Wola by Deputy Sheriff Arriber and a Churchill County deputy. Nevada boy saves seven lives hero in Carson River

John Crowe a 17 year old Bronewick boy who twice shot his father in self defense and repeatedly saved others dived into the Carson River to rescue Arthur Wiard after a fall from an improvised ferry. Crowe dragged Wiard to shore and he was revived. crowds call him a statewide hero for his bold rescues over four years.

High Graders Captured Near Goldfield Cabin

April 27. Constable Ioman and four deputies seized seven high graders at a town outskirts cabin in Goldfield Nevada and recovered 951 pounds of ore believed stolen from the Mohawk mine. The hiding site was known for some time but action waited until a labor troubles settlement neared.

State Prison Appointees Named by Prison Board

The State Prison Board met with Governor Sparks Secretary Donginass and Attorney General Stod dard present. Col. 5. H. Day is selected as the next Warden, with a new staff including Joe Muller as Captain of the guards and Jesse Newm as lieutenant. Fred C. Fellows becomes overseer, Martin G. Cecil assumes commissary, John Hill as clerk to Warden, replacing James Lucy. Changes in guards include Captain Cavanaugh’s resignation.

The San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad agreed to judgments in two suits for violating the safety appliance law by not equipping cars with automatic couplings. Each offense carries a $100 fine.
