Woman Narrowly Escapes Falling Into Shaft
Mrs. Clayton Belknap nearly fell into the Best and Belcher shaft at the head of Taylor Street while gathering snow for ice cream on Monday. Fatal shooting at Derby over fishing rights dispute
George Murphy a government engineer on the Trackoo Carson project in Derby Washoe County was shot April 18 by Nelson Shaffer of Reno after Murphy drove a crowd from the dam for a second time. The bullet entered above the left eye as Shaffer fled ten feet away. Shaffer surrendered to deputies and is jailed in Reno. The incident followed a dispute over fishing rights at the Derby dam with local youths present.
