Recall Powers in Los Angeles Charter Spark Dismissal Demand
Voters in Los Angeles demanded the recall of Councilman J P Davenport of the Sixth Ward under the new charter’s recall provision. A petition signed by 25 percent of ward electors accuses Davenport of conniving at a city lands deal with the Los Angeles Times printing contract at a bid $11 000 over the next lowest, violating his oath and betraying trust. The charter’s recall allows a trial by voters within 80 days, with Davenport as candidate and a winner-takes-seat outcome for the unexpired term.
