Eureka Visitors Weigh Rail Venture And Water Prospects
George Whittell, owner of the Nevada Eureka Railway, arrived from San Francisco with his son and W H Reid to observe road conditions and explore artesian water for reclamation. He leased the line to Nevada Transportation Company, aims to boost traffic and gauge valley water sources for large land tracts north of the rail line.

At an adjourned June 14 meeting the Eureka County Board of Commissioners ordered renewing burglary insurance for one year beginning June 14 1912 with county funds up to 9625 and 80000 coverage. They also appointed H Rogers to audit county and township officers books for 1912 year to mid year and approved Clerk's registration supplies purchase from Nevada Press Company.

Fatal shooting affray in Eureka redlight district
A fatal shooting occurred in Eureka's redlight district about four this morning. Florence Gordon killed her lover Tony Rose with a 282 caliber pistol, firing once near the heart and once in the head. Gordon surrendered at the sheriff's office, claiming Rose had abused and attacked her with a knife after forcing entry. An inquest is being held by Justice L W Cromer as the town notes jealousy and past abuse as context.

W F Nantker route agent for Wella Fargo & Co arrived in Eureka by Friday train to arrange re opening of the express offices. The firm had discontinued service after the railroad washed out two years ago. After July 1 the regular published through rate will apply for express shipments in Eureka. For now the office remains at the railroad depot under Superintendent L R Gladden.

Mirkovich Sentenced to Death for Tonopah Murder
In Tonopah Judge Averill sentences Andrija Mirkovich to death for the May murder of John Gregoviich, with execution by shooting scheduled for August 23. The condemned man chose shooting over hanging, faced the court with nervousness, and will be taken to State Prison Monday evening. The victim was a prominent local citizen, and the verdict met broad public approval.

Miner Loses Arm in Reno Amputation After Accident
William Depaoli a former Eureka miner working at Diamond mine on Prospect Mountain suffered a left arm injury at Manhattan last April. Blood poisoning led doctors to amputate the arm between elbow and shoulder in Reno on June 4 to save his life.
