An elderly Western Indian known as the Squaw Man was killed by a locomotive in Reno, a figure shrouded in legend and exile. Koch earned 160000 from the Rhodesian government and declined a permanent Africa posting.
George W. Rumble, mining promoter, was sentenced by Judge De Haven in San Francisco to 18 months in San Quentin State Prison and a $500 fine for defrauding victims via stock sales of the Sunset Mining Company. He must post $10,000 bond on appeal after denial of new trial and arrest motions.

Nevada faces imminent loss of its last band of mountain sheep as engineers warn that the Salt Lake and San Pedro Railroad may hasten their decline without a national reserve. Salt Lake Herald notes a proposed Lincoln County reserve of about 625 square miles, with action expected when Congress convenes next December.
Dr Stephen H Watts of Johns Hopkins Baltimore has devised a silver bolt technique to join fractured bones. After exposing the fracture the bones are mortised and a hole drilled to insert a silver bolt. When tightened the joint becomes rigid, allowing bone knitting to proceed without movement. Watts reports early success including a double leg fracture where one leg was amputated and the other healed after several months.

Hassell McKinnon aged 17 son of Mr and Mrs J B McKinnon died at Reno home on June 3 after a fractious horse reared and fell backward pinning him with its horn. Rushed home, internal injuries proved fatal. Native of Virginia City.
