Pittman Reclamation Bill Advances in U S Senate

Senate approval of Senator Pittman’s bill to reclaim Nevada public lands by underground water pumping. It authorizes the Interior Secretary to grant two year water development permits to qualified U S citizens associations or corporations for up to 2569 acres. Permittees may own 160 acres and auction the rest in 40 acre farm units. The measure targets eastern Nevada groundwater and arid lands likely to require wells and large-scale irrigation.
