Lorimer Loses Senate Seat After Bribery Claims
Washington July 13 The Senate voted 56 to 28 to unseat William Lorimer as junior Senator from Illinois declaring his election tainted by corrupt practices. Lorimer who had served since June 18 1900 faced a previous 46 to 40 reversal of an earlier 1911 decision. He defended his conduct for twelve hours in the chamber before the final roll call. The case stemmed from Chicago Tribune reports in 1910 alleging bribery and a $1000 payment to Charles A White.
