Eureka’s Three Day Celebration and Sports Events

Eureka hosts a three day National celebration with baseball, races, dances, and a grand ball by the Rescue Hose Company and Ball Association. Local visitors filled housing and crowds enjoyed plays, boxing, and concerts at Eureka Theatre and Pavilion with Bets on carlin team games and notable performances by the Eureka Band and string orchestra.

Eureka Sees Good Radio Service Demonstration

Wallace Blood and William Heinz demonstrated open air radio by mounting a receiving setup on Main Street Eureka and linking an aerial from the court house flagpole to the Eureka Theatre. Catalina Island station came in clearly while Los Angeles was heard but with heavy static. The crowd observed that Eureka has favorable radio conditions for summer broadcasting though Ely suffered due to hills and mineral deposits.

New Road Around Shoshone Point Open

Battle Mountain Scout reports Eureka County under Commissioner F A Fulkerson completed a new road around Shoshone Point on the Victory Highway eliminating a dangerous 20 percent grade section. The old SP right of way was secured earlier by Eureka County and the State Highway Board for this new stretch now ready for travel.

Bank Directors Meeting at Eureka Bank Promotes Teller to Assistant Cashier

The Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Eureka held a directors meeting on Monday evening July 3 with President J Sheehan presiding. Growth over the past six months was very satisfactory and an improved condition call is expected soon. Miss Fanny Gibson, longtime bank teller, was promoted to assistant cashier.

Local Railway Sale Rumors Dismissed by Eureka-Croesus Boss

Dispatch from D. L. Torres, president of the Eureka-Croesus Mining Company in New York, states the Eureka-Croesus Mining Company has not purchased railroad as reported. No further developments are noted on the sale to Eastern mining and automobile capitalists.

Mrs Julius Minoletti of Eureka died after influenza and pneumonia at age 74. She leaves husband Minoletti and six children, two daughters, 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, all of Eureka. A requiem mass was held, with funeral at the Catholic church.

Ore Rates Cut To Utah Smelters

Salt Lake Tribune reports a July 4 notice announcing rate reductions on metalliferous ores moving to Salt Lake Valley smelters from California and Nevada. Effective July 28, open carloads minimum 80,000 pounds. Largest cuts on ores valued at twenty dollars per ton or less, with specific falls from Winnemucca, Golconda, and Nevada towns such as Rennex Beowawe Palisade Carlin Wells Tobar Biko Deeth.

Eureka Pioneer Dies in Reno at 71

Benjamin Regi, longtime Eureka camp resident and later Ely resident, died in Reno at age 71. A stone mason involved in mining, he moved to Reno to live with his children. Survived by wife, one son Ben Regli, and two daughters Mrs. J. W. Bailey and Mrs. A. Loubigh of Reno.

County Commissioners Hold July Meeting in Eureka

The Eureka County Board of County Commissioners met July 5 with Commissioners Reid Johnson Pulkerson and McGparies present plus a clerk. They approved last minutes and officers’ reports, reviewed bonds for Game Wardens Whitmore and Huebner, and ordered the Lincoln Highway project between Eureka and the Hay Ranch bid and begun this year using state funds to secure the $7,500 appropriated.

Reduced Train Service Between Palisade and Eureka

Local Agent M F Williams informs the Sentinel that reduced train service has no effect this week. Palisade trains run on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays from Palisade, with Eureka departures on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays.

Train Schedule Through Four States to Chicago

A traveler will be about two days out at Cheyenne covering 1253 miles passing Carroll Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids Iowa then DeKalb Milnois and arriving in Chicago at 9 o clock on the third morning after about 2413 miles in 75 hours likely to seek a hotel upon arrival.
