Japanese Army Rations and the Mamibushi Fish
General Weston notes a Japanese field ration that weighs far less than the American daily ration. The dried mamibushi fish, about 12 ounces and two feet long before prep, sustains a soldier for days and enables long marches with minimal supply lines. The Japanese diet centers on rice and preserved fish, contrasting with the roughly four pounds per day in the U S Army.
