Cato Would Sidetrack Tonopah and Carson & Colorado Cutoff
Railroad insiders in Hawthorne discuss an unofficial Southern Pacific plan to build a Carson and Colorado cutoff from north of New Boston to Benton California. The route would bypass Sodaville and Luning, cutting Tonopah and Goldfield off the main line, shortening distance from about 93 to 60 miles and shaving nearly two hours from travel time. The White Mountains crossing would be avoided by a lower elevation main route. Separately the San Francisco Bulletin adds a Woman's Household Section to Sundays with illustrated practical household content and a blend of news and literature for readers.
