A Country Gentleman reader outlines a frost prevention method for water pipes. Melt equal parts petroleum vaseline and paraffin wax, dry pipes, apply a thick hot coat with a brush, and keep it liquid with a lamp. The grease coat supposedly stops frost penetration even in exposed pipes.
The safe in Earl Tremont’s Washington city land office was found locked after his death, with Tremont alone knowing the combination. Government attempts to recover the code failed, and it is believed Tremont may have altered the combination without providing a copy to authorities. The safe could hold government records and Tremont’s private papers. possible action includes forceful entry.
Nevada's industrial insurance covers about 12 500 workers since July 1 1913. Premiums total to $98 000 with $25 000 due by December. July payments were $12 000 and November $22 500. Ten percent of premiums go to a reserve, ten percent to expenses, leaving 80 percent for benefits. In six months about 700 accidents were reported, 18 fatal.
