Eureka County Board Approves Lot Purchase and County Physician Plan

The Eureka County Board met in January with commissioners Reid Johnson and Fulkerson and Clark and attorney present. They approved paying Dennis Keefe $50 for Lot 12 in Block 20 Eureka for a county machinery building, hired Dr W H Brennen as County Physician at $125 monthly and Health Officer at $25 monthly with $200 monthly salary cap, and set terms including notice for termination. They also ordered contracts, equipment purchases including a new typewriter, and selected 205 qualified electors as trial jurors for 1920.

Fall Snow Hits Southern Nevada Passes

The latest storm dumped heavier snow in the south with four foot drifts between Caliente and Pioche. Pioche to Sharps saw two to three inches, and Cherry Creek summit recorded about a foot with three feet on the north side. Currant Creek to Duckwater had little snow. Roads remain generally passable though the Cherry Creek ascent from the north is not feasible.

Eureka Climax Mining Stock Listed on San Francisco Exchange

Eureka Climax Mining Company of Eureka Nevada had its stock listed on the San Francisco Mining Exchange on Tuesday January 6. The opening price was 15 cents a share and it closed that day at 21 cents. It then closed at 22 cents on Wednesday and Thursday and finished Friday at 24 cents.

Night School for Eureka under new state act

An evening school program may be established in Eureka under an act approved March 24 1917 assigning state funding and oversight. Local boards can establish classes with fifteen applicants, with courses for native and foreign born youths and adults. No charge if Eureka forms a district. Reno Virginia City and Carson City already operate. Principal Oxen Dickinson U.S. funds allotted but few districts in eastern Nevada have joined.
