Milling Plant for Rochester Mexican Mining Firm Plans New Mill

The Mexican Gold and Silver Mining Company votes to invest about 145000 in Rochester district, assume 45000 debt, and build a mill costing around 100000 to treat ores from Rochester Mines and Rochester Weaver Mines. Plant to be ready by July 1 1914, with Rochester firms supplying 1000 tons daily for 1000 days. They will charge 86 per ton. after three years Rochester firms may buy the mill for 100000. Final board approval pending. Mexican company must decide by March 1914.

Bounty Laws Cut for Coyote Lynx and More in Humboldt

The Elko Free Press notes a 1913 law fixing bounties at 50 cents for coyotes 2 dollars for lynx or wildcats five dollars for mountain lions. Humboldt District Court records show a grand jury recommending revoking saloon licenses for gambling and removal of local jail staff for neglect of duty.

New Currency Law Reshapes Federal Banking System

The new currency bill, passed by Congress and signed by President Wilson, creates a Federal Reserve framework with eight or twelve regional banks and a governing board. The plan lets most national banks loan up to 25 percent of capital and surplus on five year farm mortgages, with oversight by the Federal Reserve Board.

In Paris a paper presented to the Academy of Sciences by Edmund Perrier summarizes Dr. R Robinsons experiments arguing the appendix cannot be removed without harm since it releases a hormone aiding the intestines. The study defines hormone as any substance from an organ that stimulates a body function. Dr. Robinson warns against removing a healthy appendix as a mistake. Mrs. William Danberg of Carson Valley died at the family home in Minden from an acute pneumonia attack.

Tonopah Prosperity Highlighted In Bonanza Review

The Tonopah Bonanza’s 16 page Review Number reports strong growth over the past year with higher post office money orders by 29823.50 and paid orders up 8813.93, stamp and box rent gains 1030.79, and postal savings 75442. Enrollment reaches 525 students up from 375 in 1913. The payroll tops 260000 monthly with 1402 welders paid 196188. Building activity to 125000, water usage up 160000 gallons daily, water company spending 20000, service now 350000 gallons daily. Nevada California Power adds 2000 horsepower at 15000. Population estimated at 6000 with 1500 new in 1913.
