T L Oddie former Nevada governor arrived with Mrs Oddie at the Hotel Utah after the Pacific Limited journey He notes increased mining activity in Nevada camps citing high metal prices cheaper ore processing and East wealth as drivers He predicts metal prices will hold for two years with silver near 1 and copper demand sustained by wartime needs.
Harold Gunnell and Normande Bell of Winnemucca are appointed cadets at West Point by Senators Newlands and Pittman. They currently attend a six week preparatory course in San Francisco and will take the final examination at the Presidio.
Senator L. R. Thatcher proposes a measure to ban gambling, targeting slot machines and card games for money. Denominations range from 25 to 1000 dollars, backed by long term mortgages. Initial bank capital 750000, with 5 percent stock purchases by borrowers. Capital plan leads to borrower ownership of all bank stock.
Theodore Roosevelt declared his support for the President and said he would raise a division if war is declared. He noted 200000 offers in his files and will march with his four sons. Separately, Washington reports the Webb bill advancing a national prohibition constitutional amendment through the House Judiciary Committee.
