Highway Matters Under Discussion In Burke County

Former State Highway Engineer Cottrell and EB C Hully arrived in Burke County to confer with County Commissioners about the Overland Trail highway planned to run through the northern part of the county. Cottrell endorsed a route via Shoshone, Carlin, and Beowawe, delaying notice of work and causing a billing dispute over a Humboldt River bridge. The county, pressing Missouri line delays, seeks agreement as officials prepare to attend a Reno meeting with county delegations and California interests.

Eureka Uncle Sam Mine Ventilation Upgrade and Tunnel Plans

A large ventilation system has been metalized for the Uncle Sam mine tunnel and the 550 feet to the Friday incline at Hamburg mine will not be discussed further. An upraise will connect present workings to the Schneider shaft following the funnel level to reach a continuous high grade ore chute to the bottom for shipping.

Tyler and Sulr Married in Eiko County

John C. Tyler and Mise Lenore Sulr, both of Carlin, wed in Eiko County. The groom formerly lived in Palisade and Eureka, left Palisade about a year ago for Eiko County, where he has since resided. Numerous Eureka friends send congratulations despite some dissenters.

Death of Former Eureka Resident Bert L Smith

Bert L Smith, a Eureka native who lived in the town for about ten years, died in New York City on Saturday February 4 at age 69. His remains will be shipped to Dallas Texas for burial. He was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge and had recently moved to Oklahoma to join the oil business with fortunes improved for the family now residing in Tulsa.

Nevada Man Shot by Angered Wife in Mountain City

In Mountain City Eureka County Nevada a man known as Tea Johnson was shot in the left breast by his wife after a quarrel. The wife was jailed and later discharged after a preliminary examination finding self defense. Sheriff Harris and officials traveled to the scene. Johnson’s injuries were not dangerous and he was hospitalized.

First public basketball game in Burcks County High School

The Burcks County High School played its first public basketball game last Saturday at Pavilion Hall, with the Freshmen defeating the high school 18 to 15.
