Masquerade Ball Draws Eureka Crowd at Ion Hall

A Fraser City masquerade ball held at Ion Hall Friday night drew Eureka attendees despite Christmas dorm and bad roads. Revelers showcased original costumes, with Balt Lake outfits, and a $15 prize awarded by Fire Company for best sustained character or group. Judges Merrill Fletcher, Angelo Florio, and John Eccles announced winners including Pharaoh's Daughter Miss Anna Sumner, Moses Miss Roberta Mor Aldo, and Tower of Jewels Tom Kelley, with music by Mrs. J. A. Rattazzi and Ray Swick.

Burglars Plead Guilty in District Court

In Palisade on December 14 Elmer B May Raymond H Scott and Verne pled guilty to first degree burglary before Judge Breen in District Court. Breen set Tuesday at 11 a m as date for the prisoners to appear for further proceedings.

Eureka County Chamber of Commerce Update and Mining News

At a special meeting of the Eureka County Chamber of Commerce directors on December 29, discussion covered mail service gaps. The group urged Post Office Department action and Washington representatives to restore service to at least six weekly trips, by air or Star routes, noting Eureka serves about 1000 patrons via four Star routes. Mining notes report advancement at the Holly mine with drift progress and potential intersection with east-west ore zones, plus continued high grade ore from the South stope and slow Bullwhacker development due to hard ground. Shipped ore to smelters will resume when roads permit. The Eureka-Nevada Mining Co. announces a bond issue of 30,000 in eight percent gold bonds convertible to stock at $1 per share, to fund further development adjoining Eurekas-Croesus and Uncle Sam properties, per president W. J. Robinson of Salt Lake City.

Christmas in Eureka Public School Christmas Cheer

Christmas in Eureka brought joy to local children through public trees and school programs. Episcopal and Cuepelle Sunday Schools held festive events while Presbyterian School gave gifts to all members. Stormy conditions kept visitors away and a quiet holiday week fostered home reunions and recreation.

Dr Morrison Recovering From Blood Poisoning

Dr S K Morrison, of Colfax, improved after blood poisoning from an arm infection. An instrument scratch during an operation caused the infection. He was brought to Reno last night and underwent another operation. Medical staff report the spread checked and recovery hopeful but danger remains for a day or two.

The Diamond district school closed for a two week Christmas vacation. Miss Stella Gianoli traveled to Eureka to spend the break. Jonnph Fiynn delivered wine turkeys to the Eureka market. Mr and Mrs Edgar Sadler hosted Christmas dinner with guests including Mrs M Bailey and others. Mrs Bailey plans an eightieth birthday reception January 2nd from 2 to 5. Ranchers began feeding cattle as snow covers feed. Edgar Lane Plummer of Mineral Hill visited relatives in California. Edgar Sadler and Tom Eccles were Eureka visitors during the week.

Captain and Mrs Moorman long time residents of White Pine County plan to move to Venice California to make their home in the future. The Carson Neirs report that L. A. Hunting arrived in Carsoln Monday evening after four days of auto travel from Eureka. Despite heavy snow and poor road conditions, Hunting and his Ford car pressed on, reaching Austin in better shape than expected.

Two Mail Planes Wrecked in Week With No Mail Loss

Two mail planes operating from Biko were wrecked recently. Pilot Scott forced a landing in the Ruby mountains and escaped injury as mail was transported by horse. A second plane, piloted by Boonstra near Currie, suffered engine trouble and burned, but no mail was lost since the craft was en route to Ely without cargo. The pilot remained unharmed.
