Masquerade Ball Draws Town for Fire Company Event

The Fire Companys masquerade ball drew a large town crowd on Friday evening with many traveling into town for the formal event. A prize was awarded to His Favorite, given by a six piece orchestra, followed by supper and dancing into the morning. A list of attendees includes Bogantini Little Mary, Florio Rose, Laird Campbell, Miss Joy Lootbourrow, and others as the community shows support for the fire boys while looking ahead to a new school house.

Falian Ranch School Entertainment Delights Attendees

Goodwill and happiness filled the Italian Ranch schoolroom on Friday evening as parents and friends gathered for a pupil produced program. The space was transformed with tinsel and a bright Christmas tree for the performance featuring a song, recitation, a Mother Goose play, a singing finale, and a visit from Santa.

Not Slightly Wounded While Hunting Rabbits

Robbie Davis, Freddie Zadow and Granville Fletcher, Eureka lads, hunted rabbits near the cedars three miles north of town last Tuesday when a 22 caliber shot discharged by Freddie Zadow pierced Davis’s right foot. Two others rendered first aid. Davis was carried home. Dr Brennen says infection risk remains and Davis should recover in a few days if no infection develops.

Eleven month old Hibidi Antatoy daughter of Mr and Mrs Martin Anestoy Mohs Eureka County died October 24 at the family home. She was buried today after a Catholic church funeral at Wy. Attendance included many friends and relatives of the Anestoy family.

Raine-Brite murder case moves toward Eureka trial

District Attorney Reynolds was notified to act promptly in the murder case of Robert F. Raine and John H. Brite. A first degree murder complaint was filed in Justice Court and warrants telegraphed to Sheriff Hill. Texas will send a deputy to bring the defendants to Eureka for trial with federal assistance sought and a new judge to preside once Reynolds completes prosecution duties.

Bruffey Hurt In Horse Riding Accident Near Mineral Hill

Roger Bruffey, while driving calves two and a half miles below the Gruffey ranch near Mineral Hill, was crushed when his horse fell on him. His leg was badly injured and Dr. Secor of Elko ordered X rays to assess the fracture. Bruffey and a companion returned to Elko for treatment.

County Board Names Mrs. Alice Quayle Commercial Teacher

The County Board of Education elected Mrs. Alice Quayle of San Francisco to teach Commercial and History at the local high school. Mrs. Quayle, a Castilleja alumna and LeLand Stanford graduate, previously taught a year at Palo Alto High School and will begin teaching upon the school’s resumed session with her husband currently abroad.

New Eureka Mining Board to List Stock on NY Curb

The New York Financial News reports Eureka Mining Company plans a directors’ announcement and a stock listing on the New York Curb. Directors will organize Suraha Smelting and Mining shares, issued at par, as the company seeks large capital. A railway deal with Burke-Hevade is said near completion, but no direct confirmation has been obtained from NY or local offices.

Funeral services for Atha Nick Carter were held in Reno with full Masonic honors. Knights Templar in regalia led the procession followed by Shriners and lodge members. A large crowd of citizens and officers witnessed the ceremony and paid final respects as the casket lay in the temple.

Labor Commissioner Prank notes continued gains in employment with 3,673 men on the payroll totaling $395,335.76 in November, up 44 workers and $8,302.99 from October. Compared with November 1921, payrolls rose by $142,429.45 and 1,018 jobs.
