A new strike 200 feet level in the Jinksville drift yields assays of 362 ounces with 60 percent lead and substantial gold value. A second strike in the 400 foot level shows potential body as large as Dunder Berg. Hoisting room to be made, big raise progressing, ore wet and hard to move, snow blocks road delaying supplies at the mine.
Eureka suffers a pronounced fuel shortage as the community endures unease. The situation eased after news the East coal strike had ended and increased coal tonnage would soon arrive. Local railway manager Sexton warned that without coal he must cut Eureka train service unless supply from Palisade is secured.
Two weeks ago the Senti nel reported that mail excluding the Jetter pouch stayed at the railway depot from arrival before 6 p.m. until 11:30 a.m. next day, then moved to the post office. This week the Eureka train arrived at 4 p.m. and the pouch was delivered soon after, while nearly a truckload of mail remained in snow on the depot platform until 9 a.m. next day before distribution.
A meeting to organize a local American Legion post will be held at the Hod Crow Room in the Courthouse on Saturday evening December 18 at 6 o'clock. All men who have served in the U S Navy or military since 1917 are urged to attend.

The Eureka County Board met December 5 with Commissioners Reid and Johnson. They verified Treasurer balances with the auditor and county funds on hand and on deposit. The minutes were approved, reports filed, and county bills listed elsewhere. The Tax Commission approved raising the 1919 levy: General Fund 61 to 54 cents per $100, Roads 16, County State Highway 10, District School 18 to 19, County High School 8 to 9 cents.
Eureka visitors Edgar Sadler and John Eccles came Saturday while Albino Romano toured Elko and Salt Lake. An earthquake was felt at 11 55 PM. Tuesday morning the thermometer showed 10 below with five inches of snow. The Flynn family from Mineral Hill is wintering on their valley ranch. Mrs M Eccles hosted a dancing party Friday night with guests including Mrs B C Johnson and family Mr and Mrs A Romano Mr Bailey Wallace Mr and Mrs B Sadler and family Miss Marion Bari Mrs Flynn Katherine and Joseph Flynn Joho and Tom Eccles.
It is understood that Mrs. Laura Hoegh’s term as postmaster at Eureka will expire next month and she will not reapply. A movement in Eureka supports Mrs. Lucy A. Gates for the postmaster position upon Hoegh’s term ending, with broad local approval.
The Biko Independent reports temperatures plummeting across the region. At eleven, Elko registered fifteen below zero, Halleck dropped lower, Carlin hit twenty-eight below, and the Pacific Fruit and Ice plant saw thirty eight below. A stray cow caused a Southern Pacific derailment near Lovelock, injuring two workers and destroying a caboose. Conductor Hubert S. Ede and brakeman J. H. Dinan are seriously affected and likely to require extended care.
John E. Sexton of the Eureka Nevada Railway arrived in Eureka with colleagues to discuss planned depot changes at Buren. They aim to replace the old freight depot with a combined depot housing freight, passenger, offices, and express rooms under one roof, add a second story with four living rooms, and extend the line toward the baseball grounds and canyon toward ore bins. Weather delays push initiation until conditions improve.
Dr. Mabel K. Young unveils a new professional card in the Sentinel. Thomas Dixon returns by Friday’s train from a business trip. W J Harris departs by Thursday’s train to spend holidays with daughter in Reno. C C Van Laningham of Palisade visits Eureka this week and may stay. Attorney E C Plummer returns by Wednesday from a western state trip. Eugene Davis has booked the Eureka Theatre for Christmas Eve dancing party after a picture show. Ernest Simonsen says a rabies-related dog euthanizes a pet on the ranch. Miss Vivian Johnson of Indianapolis arrives to teach commerce at the County High School, later delayed by illness. Nob Hill Fire Company announces its New Year’s masquerade ball at the Eureka Theatre, expected to draw large crowds.
Eureka County teachers from the high and grammar grades will travel to Elko next Tuesday to attend an Institute session for educators across the state. A new law will fund traveling expenses while teachers cover hotel and living costs. Adequate lodging is arranged for visiting instructors during their stay. The session is supervised by state educators and aims to benefit district schools. Following institute week, Christmas holidays close schools next Monday for a three week vacation, reopening January 5.
W. R. Reynolds of Eureka County seeks a writ of prohibition to halt district court steps in a grafting case. Reynolds faces a charge of taking money to influence the Eureka County Exemption Board for deferred classification in the draft for Parmagini. The state Supreme Court denied the application but allowed review on appeal or habeas corpus.
The Eureka Theatre announces December shows featuring Constance Talmadge in Up the Road With Sallie on Sunday evening. A five reel Carolyn of Corners and Ford Educational pictures follow on Wednesday. Friday brings Mitchell Lewis in Faith of the Strong with a Pathe Review reel, all arranged as holiday season photo plays.

Vernon Metcalf secretary of the Nevada Livestock Association announces the regular State meeting will be held in Reno likely in late January. A large attendance of ranchers from all sections is anticipated as the membership grows after statewide local meetings this month.
Five railroad engines along the line near Elko froze Monday night, Elko Independent reports. The motive department was handicapped next day as three locomotives froze in Elko shops. A separate note states a doctor orders a girl to put on more clothes or go south, and she will go south.
